Toundra yesterday published its third and highly anticipated studio album entitled "(III)". The expectation created with this LP has been complete and they, who have always known feet touch ground at all times, have managed to carve another big bombshell that will delight those who enjoy the beautiful with the apocalypse that characterizes his delusional instrumental sound.
Looking ahead to this time we wanted to know absolutely everything about the recording process of 'Lilim', 'Mars', 'Spiritist' and other songs "(III)" so we got in touch with the band from Madrid to see if we could make a 1 x 1 album cuts, something they very kindly agreed adding a clear and concise message: this time Toundra have wanted to deviate from the main path of post rock. What was important at this point? "Victor explains to us:" We have tried to offer something different to our previous album, something more raw, straight, dark, aggressive yet elegant, more complex, and it sounds better compound more our live. It is clear that there are many things and very ambitious, but to this day, is the best record we could do. ". Moreover Esteban tells us that DNA is well expressed in Toundra "(III)", "believe that the disc very well defined Toundra because what you hear is what we are: a battery that protrudes completely from the rest, two guitars faced with completely opposite styles and low that brings together all the instruments and (Alberto) always has the last word. "
Without further ado here are the boys' own analysis of Toundra. Enjoy it!
01. - Ara Coeli:Esteban: Since Victor taught guitar opens the track with the synth knew that this topic would be the track 1 disc. Victor is also the progressive riff that, in our opinion, is the best parts of (III). It's a song that defines our sound right now is pretty parts, crescendo, sugarcane parties, progressive ... but otherwise I do not think an earlier in structure and instrumentation. So I like both. Will fill in an atmosphere of harmony and order and then give a blow to the head. Also involved Hellacopters inspired and was the first riff I did when we knew we had to get to work on this album every man for himself. But the good thing about this group is that the different influences that we are safeguarded in all four playing. The name is a tribute to my aunt (and my family), Araceli, cornerstone Girón family, rest in peace.
02. - Black Sky:Victor: It was the second issue that we started writing (around April-May, 2011). Over the last year has had multiple versions and I remember that everything came from a riff that brought Stephen and began directly without the intro. Possibly the subject disk might best be embedded within (II) is more palatable and less complicated structure. The start trying to sound different, rock group of the 70 and then the second part enlazase is more relaxed. By July we get stuck halfway through and had to compose theme Ara Coeli. Sergio (Aloud Music) defines something like "a song that slams you and at the end leaves you totally cleansed." As a curious note that this was the first song I had more than one word as title Toundra entire discography.
03. - Requiem:Esteban: A weekday lunch with Victor was and I said I wanted a theme that oxygenate the disc, something different, as there was in the previous two. I knew what he meant: a theme that will give variety to "(III)", which come out fully the style of practice and influences drank away in time. That night I could not sleep and di guitar playing with the idea of this topic. Then Victor wrote at local guitar melody, and I noticed shortly after with the chord progression. I recorded it to share it with the rest by mail. Then the local Victor composed the guitar riff, which gives an air of melancholy to the topic. From there the issue grows and grows into one of the most epic we've ever done, thanks largely to the string arrangements by Yoren, a childhood friend of Alberto. It also has a guitar solo from our (admired) The Scrip friend Hardtops, for us one of the people who best represents the rock.
04. - Mars:Victor: It was the first song I started writing and just last. It grew out of an improvisation on several ideas that had brought Esteban. There were things that we were not convinced and leave "pending" until about February 2012. Alberto insisted recycle the original principle of the song, which was too broken and wanted to experience something more wild. Alex has used this type of rhythms with other groups, although he had never applied to Toundra, the end result is superb. The song was a coming and going to parties, had up to a war vs Victor alone. Esteban, but luckily recovered sanity and decided to top it with a hand full of timbales dense, much more consistent with the rest of the theme. The icing was recorded trumpet line Manolo, that replicates the guitar melody. This is a very dynamic and fun to play live. I think little by little we are more interested in playing things faster.
05. - Lilim:Esteban: The riff that starts the song we had done it a long time and we left parked. We had several jokes about it because it reminded us of a particular style of music you hate. Thanks to Alex battery change and the work they did on the Westline Studios with the help of Juan Blas in preproduction not just take it out later, but we took it a step further ... the beginning of this song envelops you, it is difficult to explain in words. My guitar is a mantra that nothing enters the dense atmosphere of bass and drums and guitar riff Victor with exotic snakes on the set. I particularly like because it has a line of guitar playing that goes along with the song but small changes within the same (if arpeggiated, if as a riff, that if in crescendo ...). This is something that before we dared and we see that it worked. There's a part at the end which is a tribute to Nirvana, capital group in our influences.
06. - Spiritist:Victor: I think it was the third song we wrote. In (III) have worked enough ideas at home and then we took her to the local. Victor wrote home composed the start of the topic and the next day we taught. Anyone know which group is quite difficult to have a beginning, an end and nothing in between ... I wanted it to be an issue epic feeling to give final disc, but neither lost immediacy, energy, nor was longer than the others. It is another issue that has changed over time, actually got to release a version Ferrara Anniversary concert that today would be unrecognizable to us except for those beginning and end ... It has a very interesting middle and dark, a crescendo of piano with Egyptian air that we love. (Steve: Although I wanted to erase bastards).
Victor: We were very clear from the beginning that we wanted to voice at the end and we gradually fitting all the extra instruments and arrangements have item. A disk end of cutting less than the (I) or (II), much more intention. From guitars fading exhausted.
